In this Module you will explore place value and learn different ways to express, or represent large numbers. We'll end this module with an activity using Checks!
Math Marvel, great job with Module 1! Now we'll add to what you know about place value to do all kinds of math skills like comparing, ordering and even exploring patterns in place value charts!
Why do we round off numbers? What's the point of estimating when the exact number is best, right? In the real world, there are times when the answer doesn't need to be exact. We'll explore problems when an approximation works well, in math class and real life. We'll look at a lot of hot spots with rounding to make sure can round to a specific place.
Math Marvels, in Sessions 16-20 we'll explore Addition. Yeah, yeah, I'm sure this isn't the first time you've how to add but in this course we'll break it down from models, algorithms and word problems. And you'll learn new strategies that will make you even stronger at adding!
Math Marvels, in Sessions 21-25 we'll explore Subtraction. We'll discuss the different real world contexts for subtracting numbers as well as represent subtraction in lots of new ways. Then, we'll learn different strategies you can use to subtract quickly and accurately.
Math Marvel, in Sessions 26-30 you'll explore patterns with numbers. Using repeated addition, you'll use a Noticing Strategy to explore visual and numerical patterns which skip counting to 100. We'll also talk about factors and multiples, how are connected and how are they different? And use patterns to identify factors and multiples of numbers. We'll end the module and the course with an activity called The Locker Game.
