In this course, Math Marvels work to master fundamental skills. These skills are essential for more advanced math skills in 4th grade. There are 30 session courses. In each course, 4th graders will have a video lesson and a pdf of Guided Notes. Use these notes to follow along with the video session. Watching a video is helpful but to be successful in any skill requires practice. At the end of the Guided Notes, there are practice problems. We call them Purposeful Practice. Use the video and notes to support you on any practice problem.
In this course, Math Marvels will work with large numbers, whole numbers to the hundred millions and work on basic math skills they will need throughout 4th Grade. These skills are the foundation to multiplication, division and decimal values which lots of 4th graders struggle with. Math Marvels begin this course building knowledge of the pattern of “times ten” on the place value chart to understand and name numbers in the millions! 4th Graders practice representing numbers in new and interesting ways, reinforcing their understanding of place value. As students get stronger, they will build math skills with rounding, different strategies to add and subtract quickly and with more accuracy and begin exploring patterns that will help 4th graders become fluent with multiplication and division.

- 1.3Session 3: What is expanded form? How do we represent a number in expanded form?19 Minutes
- 1.4Session 4: How do I write a number from word form to standard form?11 Minutes
- 1.5Session 5: A Check Writing Activity10 Minutes
- Module 2: Comparing and Ordering NumbersMath Marvel, great job with Module 1! Now we'll add to what you know about place value to do all kinds of math skills like comparing, ordering and even exploring patterns in place value charts!5
- 2.1Session 6: What is Base-10 Shorthand? How can I represent a value using symbols?10 Minutes

- 2.4Session 9: How can stacking numbers help me compare or order numbers accordingly?8 Minutes
- 2.5Session 10: How do we compare digits in a number? How do I compare same digit in different numbers?9 Minutes
- Module 3: Rounding and EstimationWhy do we round off numbers? What's the point of estimating when the exact number is best, right? In the real world, there are times when the answer doesn't need to be exact. We'll explore problems when an approximation works well, in math class and real life. We'll look at a lot of hot spots with rounding to make sure can round to a specific place.5
- 3.1Session 11: What is Rounding? Why do we round numbers?12 Minutes
- 3.2Session 12: How can rounding help me in real life?9 Minutes

- 3.4Session 14: What does it mean to estimate sums?11 Minutes
- 3.5Session 15: What does it mean to estimate differences?11 Minutes
- Module 4: Addition StrategiesMath Marvels, in Sessions 16-20 we'll explore Addition. Yeah, yeah, I'm sure this isn't the first time you've how to add but in this course we'll break it down from models, algorithms and word problems. And you'll learn new strategies that will make you even stronger at adding!5
- 5.1Session 16: How can we use Base-10 models to help us add and regroup correctly?18 Minutes
- 5.2Session 17: How can breaking up numbers help me add them accurately?14 Minutes

- 5.5Session 20: How do we use what we have learned about place value and addition to tackle word problems?19 Minutes
- Module 5: Subtraction StrategiesMath Marvels, in Sessions 21-25 we'll explore Subtraction. We'll discuss the different real world contexts for subtracting numbers as well as represent subtraction in lots of new ways. Then, we'll learn different strategies you can use to subtract quickly and accurately.5
- 6.1Session 21: How do I subtract with Base-10 shorthand?20 Minutes

- Module 6: Number PatternsMath Marvel, in Sessions 26-30 you'll explore patterns with numbers. Using repeated addition, you'll use a Noticing Strategy to explore visual and numerical patterns which skip counting to 100. We'll also talk about factors and multiples, how are connected and how are they different? And use patterns to identify factors and multiples of numbers. We'll end the module and the course with an activity called The Locker Game.5
