Sarah Fuentes
Sarah has been an educator for twenty years. After teaching elementary and middle school math for 15 years, she began to share her expertise as an assistant principal and instructional coach.
Sarah loved math as a child. Although she was a great math student, she quickly found that teaching math was difficult; not every student learned the same way she did. In graduate school, she researched how children learn across developmental stages and changed her technique to meet the needs of struggling math learners. Now, she takes a student-centered approach to learning because all children are mathematicians. In addition to developing productive habits of mind to build persistence and grit, Sarah’s lessons tackle common errors students make to help build their skills and conceptual understanding. Math isn’t a magic trick, but it is magical when a struggling student becomes a Math Marvel. Sarah is thrilled to share her student-centered approach to learning with more students and families. Her goal is to expand Math Mini-Lessons to meet the needs of all kids, including those with special needs and English Language Learners.
Sarah holds a Master’s Degree in Childhood Education and a second degree in Mathematics Education, both from Bank Street College of Education.
